Juventus to appeal President Agnelli’s one-year ban


Following the decision by the Italian Football federation to ban Juve president Andrea Agnelli for a year, his lawyer has confirmed that the club will appeal.

Agnelli, who has led Juve since 2010, allegedly authorized the sale of season passes and other tickets, and was handed a one-year ban and a €50,000 fine for his role in the ‘illegal’ sales.

Security director Alessandro D’Angelo was banned for 15 months while ticketing director Stefano Merulla and former marketing director Francesco Calvo were also been handed one-year suspensions, and the club fined €300,000 for their general misconduct.

“We were hoping that the President would be cleared, so obviously the sentence disappoints us, even though the charges were revised,” Agnelli’s laway, Franco Coppi said after the ruling on Monday.

“We can’t hide our disappointment. Appeal? We’ll certainly present one, but for now I’ll talk to my colleague Chiappero and President Agnelli about the sentence.”

However, the federation’s prosecutor, Giuseppe Pecoraro, had requested a 2 1/2-year suspension, a fine and an order to force Juventus to play two home matches behind closed doors.

Not satisfied with the ruling on Monday, Pecoraro said he will appeal in a bid for a tougher sentence.

“I am partially satisfied because we managed to prove everyone’s guilt but the facts are so serious that I think they should be punished more,” Pecoraro said.

“I think the judgment of another court would be useful, taking into account that the resources coming from the ticket scalping went to a criminal organization, and that is very serious.”ripplesnigeria
