Harry Kane: Pep Guardiola tries to heal Pochettino rift
Pep Guardiola moved to appease Mauricio Pochettino after the manager of Manchester City was accused of disrespect for his counterpart Tottenham Hotspur.
Pochettino is upset that Guardiola has recently described Spurs as Harry Kane's team "after citing Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United as the city's main rivals for the Premier League title.
English striker Kane has scored 11 of 21 goals for Tottenham in all competitions this season, with nine goals in his last five games for the club and the country.
This dazzling race saw Kane score seven goals in his last three games for the Spurs.
He also scored two victorious goals when England managed a World Cup qualifying campaign with consecutive 1-0 victories against Slovenia and Lithuania this month.
Pochettino was annoyed with the suggestion that the Spurs is a one-man team, calling Guardiola's comments disrespectful, but the Spaniard now says he never intended to depreciate.
"I've never been disrespectful to my colleague, I've never been disrespectful at a press conference, ever," said Guardiola.
"When I talked about Harry Kane's team, it was because Harry Kane scored a lot of goals.
"And I know perfectly well that Tottenham is not just Harry Kane."
Guardiola, who leads the Premier League before Saturday's game against Stoke City, said he had always been quick to give credit to Tottenham, who finished the second season last, a place above the city.
"I think last season, the person who talked the most about the Tottenham game was me," said Guardiola.
"When they lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final last season, I said it was amazing because Chelsea had four shots and four goals.
"As I said, Tottenham is one of the best teams to play in. I'm really disappointed if I said that.
"I do not know what he said, but I've never been disrespectful to my colleagues.
"I respect that Tottenham has done in the last two or three years, there is a lot of credit in the way they play, the way they want to show their football in the Premier League, because they always attack."
Guardiola thought he had a good relationship with the manager of Tottenham, whom he said he should have misinterpreted his comments.
"Maybe I should tell Pochettino's team when I told Harry Kane's team," Guardiola said.
"But I said it because he scored two more goals against Huddersfield and one goal for the national team and another goal for the national team.
"I think Mauricio made a mistake, never in my career was I respectful.
"Maybe I can answer something when I attack my team or my club, but I would never be disrespectful to Mauricio or Tottenham."
