CAF releases list of 30 finalists for African Player of the Year Award

The African Football Confederation (CAF) named the Super Eagles Victor Moses and William Troost-Ekong among the 30 finalists of the African CAF Best Player Award 2017.

For the player of the year awarded to African players based on the continent, Junior Ajayi, who plays for Al Ahly football club in Egypt, is the only Nigerian on the list.
The list published on Wednesday by the CAF did not include the current holder of the prize, the Algerian Riyad Marez.

The list includes Senegal forward Sadio Mane and Liverpool striker Gabon and Borussia Dortmund Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, winner in 2015, Mohamed Salah (Egypt and Liverpool), Essam El-Hadary (Egypt and Al Taawoun), Yacine Brahimi (Algeria and Oporto) and Christian Bassogog (Cameroon and Henan Jianye).
According to the CAF, the winner would be decided by the votes of the coaches / technical directors of the national associations affiliated with the CAF, the members of the Technical and Development Committee of the CAF and a panel of media experts.

"The award gala will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in Accra, Ghana," the statement concluded. The complete list of nominees:
