Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has warned Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola, that “no manager can afford to dismiss the cup competitions”.

Wenger was reacting to comments made by both Manchester bosses, expressing their disdain for the Carabao Cup last week.

United manager, Mourinho, said it wouldn’t be missed if it was scrapped. On Friday, City boss Guardiola described the Cup as “a waste of energy”.

But Wenger said: “You cannot sacrifice deliberately any competition with the pressure that every club is under now.

“You know that you could pay the price sometimes for it because you know that if you go further in the League Cup, at some stage you play in the semi-final – home and away in January.

“[So] you have the FA Cup, the Premier League and sometimes you lose players in these competitions.”

Arsenal face Norwich at home in the Fourth Round. United go to Swansea while City host Championship high-fliers Wolves.
