Alex Iwobi and Chuba Iwobi

Alex Iwobi's father talks to Pulse Sports about his son's career.
It is impossible to quantify the effect that Chuba Iwobi had on his son's flourishing career.
Alex Iwobi's father, Chuba was the driving force behind Arsenal's youth career. He was seen guarding the 21-year-old Super Eagles ahead of Zambia's 1-0 win.
At the Super Eagles open training session at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Pulse Sports had the opportunity to interview Chuba Iwobi.
In this conversation, he talks about his son's career, how he started playing football and his future with the Super Eagles and Arsenal.
Chuba Iwobi was himself a footballer
"I played in the National League for two teams, I played at the University of Nigeria, at the Enugu Campus, I was at Vasco Dagama for a year and then as a corper, I also played with the famous scorpions of Ibadan.
"I played with Emmanuel Okocha, the older brother of Jay Jay and that's how I discovered Okocha, Emmanuel was my teammate and my friend, and I married his younger sister, the big sister of Jay Jay. "
How Iwobi started playing football
"As a person who loves football, I always wanted to have a child that I could play without any waiting, I never forced him to play football, what he realized was beyond my imagination.
"I took Alex to play football in the park and he enjoyed it, so when we finish, he will not want to go home, I never planned, he continued to play with his former partner just to have fun.
"When I was four, I took him to the secret development center where they had people of the same age, I noticed he was a little better, he was not exceptional, just better than other.
"When I was six years old, I put him in a club called Rippleway, a team from the Sunday League, it's during one of those matches that someone came to me and said," I'm a arsenal scout. "
"The coach told me that Alex was exceptional and that this team was also Chuba Akpom, the scout approached me and the father of Chuba and told us to bring our children to the development center. 'Arsenal, I thought the scout was joking.
"Then we took him to the development center where he spent two years because they can not register until they are nine years old.
"During these two years, there were players falling and bringing new players, but Alex and Chuba went to the court and entered the U-13 Arsenal.
"It was a difficult trip, he was almost released by Arsenal when he was 12 years old because they make a two year report but they gave him a chance.
"They almost dropped him two years later at the age of 15. He was a late developer, one of the youngest in the group, they said he was not physically and physically fast enough he was not there, they were his technical skills.
"It's Arsene Wenger who recognized his talent and gave him a chance, I will always be grateful to him."
Influence of Jay Jay Okocha

"Jay Jay talks and encourages him a lot."
How Iwobi handles
"I was not so hard on him, my strategy was always on the positive side, if I had a bad game, I always encouraged him first." "Well, Alex, it was a good pass, but you should have done that and that way."
The best position of Iwobi
"The point of each player is what we call versatility, which means you can play anywhere, you play where your coach tells you to play.
"In the end, I see him as No. 10 and people have always seen him as a No. 10 plus as an attacking midfielder.
"But because of the way Arsenal plays, you have to be prepared for different formations, now there are three players behind, Alex can play as a defense." That is not your position, but if you can play on the left, you can play on the right, you can play like a fake 9 and you can play behind the attacker.
"Your favorite position is in the number 10 function. As a player, you have to play where you're told to play, and I see it playing in any position outside the goal."
Iwobi shooting and scoring
"Alex stays after training to work on his hit and score, which comes with confidence, development and age.
"You should also be very careful because you play with big stars like Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette, you can not shoot only when you play with these players, you shoot and it widens, then they look at you and you." Why not you were?"
"He has it in him and he must have the confidence to do it."
Alex Iwobi, the man that sealed Nigeria's participation at the tournament in 2018.
"The manager gave him a goal of 10 goals in the Premier League and he gave me eight assists, which is a recognition of the talent that Wenger believes he is.
"I do not care about your score, I just want your team to do well in Arsenal or Super Eagles."
Who is in charge of Iwobiu's finances?
"I do not keep Alex's money, I'm just here to make sure he has enough when he retires."
"We have seen players cut off after retiring, it would be a mistake not to advise them properly." Alex has his team, everything is structured, I just forget it. I only advise it, it has accountants, trainers, people from the media. "
