Bayern thrash Freiburg on Heynckes return


Jupp Heynckes got off to a good start as Bayern Munich coach with a 5-0 loss to Freiburg at the Allianz Arena on Saturday.

Julian Schuster's own goal gave the advantage to Bayern in seven minutes and a header from Kingsley Coman doubled the advantage shortly before half-time.

A good shot by Thiago Alcantara allowed the defending champion to win 3-0 in the 63rd minute, moments after the VAR denied him a penalty. Other goals from Robert Lewandowski and Joshua Kimmich completed a perfect start for Heynckes' fourth reign.

That Bayern win two points behind Borussia Dortmund at the top of the Bundesliga before the league leaders' match against RB Leipzig later on Saturday.

Heynckes' men are two points ahead of Hoffenheim, who took third place and twice taken the lead twice in a 2-2 draw against Augsburg.

After Michael Gregoritsch canceled both Benjamin Huebner's first 15 minutes of the end, Mark Uth returned the lead with a curling shot in the top corner at Hoffenheim.

Augsburg equalized again in the 89th minute, Kevin Vogt deflecting a center from Jeffrey Gouweleeuw in his own net.

At the other end of the table, Hamburg could celebrate by scoring its first goal since August despite the 3-2 loss to Mainz.

The opening of Alexandru Maxim in the second minute for Mainz was quickly canceled by Walace, the tie of the Brazilian ended a drought of five games for Hamburg.

Stefan Bell however restored the advantage shortly after the break, before a mistake by Christian Mathenia allowed Danny Latza to add a third. A late penalty by Sejad Salihovic was not enough for Hamburg to avoid defeat.

On the other hand, disciplinary errors saw Hertha Berlin suffer a 2-0 defeat at Schalke 04.

Genki Haraguchi was sent off before the break, while Vladimir Darida conceded a penalty after the break. Leon Goretzka scored on the score, before Guido Burgstaller scored a second in 78 minutes.

Schalke climbed to fifth place after Hanover 96 was beaten 2-1 by an Ante Rebic winner against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Salif's header Sane canceled first goal Sebastien Haller in the first half, but Rebic attacked in 90 minutes to inflict a home defeat this season in Hannover.
