I knew I'd get a Roma return in the Champions League- Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger

ANTONIO RUDIGER admits that he knew Chelsea were going to include their former club Roma in their Champions League group.

The defender signed for the Italian side in 2015, but Antonio Conte bought it for 29 million pounds in the summer.

Rudiger will once again have the opportunity to see his former teammates like Chelsea head to the Italian capital for their fourth Champions League showdown this season.

Speaking before the draw, the German admitted that he had a strong feeling that he would return to the Stadio Olimpico this season.

"I talked to my parents [before the draw] and I already knew it," he said on Chelsea's official website.

"They told me," of course, you'll get Rome - it always happens that way, the former plays against the former.

"I'm happy to go to Rome and play against my former team, first of all, I have a lot of respect for this club because I spent two wonderful years there.

"There were ups and downs with injuries, but everyone was still behind me.

"I appreciate it, but now I'm in Chelsea, I'm very happy with it, and I'm going to give 100 percent in the game."

The reverse match between the two sides was an exciting 3-3 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea has continued to win three games since the draw, and Rudiger admits that confidence is high.

"The last week was very important," he continued.

"We go to Rome with confidence, we return to victory and we want to continue.

"We have to be ready in their stadium because it will be very difficult, I know this team.
