Iwobi, Iheanacho, Nwakaeme will lead the attack of the Eagles
Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr should start Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Anthony Nwakaeme in the attack, while the Eagles are today against the Algerian Fennec foxes in the last match of the qualifying match for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Constantine. It starts at 20:30.
With Victor Moses, Simon Moses and Odion Ighalo marginalized by their injuries, Rohr, in his last two training sessions, tested Iwobi, Iheanacho and Nwakaeme. And Iwobi whose goal silenced Zambia in a difficult game in Uyo showed some glimmers. Iheanacho has also done well and it remains to be seen what they can do against an Algerian team that hopes to win and strengthen their confidence.
The Desert Warriors hope to finish their qualifying campaign with a victory, as they have not qualified for the final phase of next year that will be organized by Russia. Algeria tackles this game without a victory in Group B, and registered a draw and four defeats. They have accumulated a point of five games. The giants of North Africa are expected to finish in fourth place with five points behind Cameroon, which beat Algeria 2-0 in Yaoundé last month.
The new Algerian coach Rabah Madjer, who will turn to the duo of Leicester City, Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani, says he knows what to expect from Nigeria. "The match against Nigeria is not a friendly match for me ... for me, it is the first qualifying match of the African Cup of Nations 2018 in Cameroon," he said.
The Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, said the team was determined to finish the season on a high note. "I am sure that we can reach new heights with this team, the guys are so committed, the coaching staff is very mature and brilliant and respectful with the players, keep our heads and play at our best level, each of us is determined".
