Why I told Lukaku to hand over penalty to Blind during Manchester United vs Benfica– Mourinho

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho explained his decision to stop striker Romelu Lukaku from penalizing Benfica in the Champions League match on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils came one step closer to Group A qualification with a 2-0 victory over Benfica at Old Trafford.

The second goal of the night was marked by a penalty by Daley Blind after Mourinho told Lukaku that he could not shoot at goal.

After the replacement, Marcus Rashford was brought to the surface, Lukaku caught the ball.

Then, the Portuguese made a signal to Ander Herrera, and then to Lukaku himself, so that the forward of 75 million pounds pass the ball to Blind.

Anthony Martial had already seen a penalty in the first period saved by goalkeeper Mile Svilar, 18.

Mourinho said at a post-match press conference, "I do not understand why everyone asks me the same thing, they pay me to make good or bad decisions.

"In the first half, the decision was bad and in the second half, I made another decision and I do not see the drama.

"The penalty shooter for this match was Martial, he was not even in the field for the second.

"Romelu wants to take, he has the personality and the character to assume the responsibility, Herrera was the same, but my decision was based on training in the last days.

"The players respected my decision and that was it, the end of the story."
