Afrobasket 2017: Tunisia overpower Nigeria's D’Tigers to emerge African champions- Nigeria's D'Tigers go down 65-77 to Tunisia in the finals of the 2017 Afrobasket Championship 
- Captain Ike Diogu finished the game with double digits for D'Tigers but it was not enough to rescue his team from defeat

Nigeria senior male basketball team D’tigers have been dethroned as African Champions after a 65-77 defeat to host Tunisia at the finals of the 2017 Afrobasket Championship. With the defeat, D’tigers have failed to defend the trophy they won in 2015 on same ground. Captain Ike Diogu finished the game with double digits which was not enough to lead the D’tigers to victory.

Nigeria won the first quarter 14-8 but narrowly went behind in the second quarter as Tunisia took a 25-24 lead into the break. The turning point of the game came in the third quarter as Ziyed Chennoufi hit a three-pointer followed by a layup to give Tunisia their biggest lead of the game of 44-30. 
The host won the third quarter 52-40, making it very difficult to get back into the game. 
Tunisia wrapped up victory 77-65 in the fourth quarter to be crowned African new champions. The male team could not repeat same feat as their female counterpart D'Tigress who won the 2017 Afrobasket Championship after defeating Senegal 65 - 48 in the final played on Sunday August 27
