Champions League: Real Madrid begin title defense with huge win

Real Madrid started the defense of their Champions League crown with a huge 3 - 0 home win over APOEL.
Cristiano Ronaldo gave Zinedane Zidane's men the lead in the 11th minute with a simple tap-in at the far post from Gareth Bale's cross which was not cleared.
Madrid were forced to take of youngster Mateo Kovacic for Toni Kroos just around the half hour mark after the Croatian picked up an injury.
Ronaldo scored the second of the game in the 51th minute via the penalty spot after a handball by defender Lago.
Sergio Ramos scored an overhead kick from close range for Los Blancos third. Marcelo's cross was headed back by Gareth Bale for the defender to deal with.
Meanwhile in the other group H game, Tottenham Hotspurs secured a 3 - 1 win over German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Spurs took the lead through Heung Son-Min gave Mauricio Pochettino's team the lead in the fourth minute with a deft shot from a tight angle on the left.
Dortmund's press eventually paid off when new signing Andriy Yarmolenko equalized in the 11th minute with a curling effort after he was teed up by Shinji Kagawa.
Kane put Spurs ahead in the 15th minute when he lashed unto a long ball from Jan Vertonghen, bullies Omar Toprak and Sokratis to slot past Burki in goal.
Against the run of Spurs got a third through Harry Kane. Cristian Eriksen found the striker on the left and has fired past Burki for his second of the night.
That was how the game ended despite both teams having numerous chances to add to the score line.
Real Madrid now top group H level on points with Tottenham.
