Iheanacho, Ndidi in action as Leicester fall to Liverpool
Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi were both in action for Leicester City as they fell 2-3 to Liverpool in a thriller at the King Power Stadium.
While forward Iheanacho came in as a late substitute in the Premier League clash on Saturday, midfielder Ndidi was on the pitch throughout the game.
Liverpool, who had been defeated 2-0 on Tuesday by their hosts in a Carabao Cup third round clash, did put up a strong side today to earn their first win in four games.
Philippe Coutinho set up Mohamed Salah for their 15th-minute opener before striking a majestic free-kick to give his side a two-goal lead on 23 minutes.
Shinji Okazaki pulled one back just before the break to give Leicester hope, but a Jamie Vardy header in the 69th minute was not enough to grab a point as Jordan Henderson netted from a Liverpool counter-attack a minute before.
“I am struggling to digest it myself,” Leicester boss, Craig Shakespeare, lamented after the defeat.
“You come in and contribute to another fabulous game of football but ultimately came away with nothing.
“Disappointing thing for me was at 2-1 down we conceded a third goal. It was a difficult game for us – it ebbed and flowed but we go away disappointed.”
The Reds boss, Jurgen Klopp, was rather in the middle of some mixed feelings, saying, “It is not a time to be completely cool but overall I was happy with our performance. The boys deserved the three points.”Thank you
